20 years of experience in African timber exploitation and import and export
Mr. Do Sy Hung, CEO of K-TIMBER, with a passion for exploring new lands, has chosen Angola as the next stop on his business expansion journey. With over 20 years of experience working and doing business in the field of African timber exploitation and export, Mr. Do Sy Hung has led HATC and K-TIMBER to become one of the leading wood suppliers in the world.
A strong goal (vision & mission)
Not only exporting high-quality wood to the international market, Mr. Do Sy Hung also aims for sustainable development, ensuring that the exploited wood does not negatively affect the natural environment and the lives of local communities.
At a press conference with the Angolan government, Mr. Do Sy Hung declared: “We not only want to provide high-quality African timber to the international market but also want to affirm the position of a prestigious Vietnamese enterprise with responsibility for exploiting and using forest resources sustainably.”
Business Philosophy
Throughout his business journey, Mr. Do Sy Hung has not only focused on sustainable forestry practices but has also been particularly concerned about and cared for the lives of the local people in Angola.
At a meeting with the people of Angola on July 28, 2016, Mr. Do Sy Hung affirmed: “We always strive for sustainable business operations based on three criteria: environment, economy, and society.”

Entrepreneurial journey
- Born and raised in Vietnam, a land with a long tradition of woodworking, Mr. Do Sy Hung developed a deep passion for this precious material at a young age. However, the domestic wood supply could not meet the growing demand, forcing the country to import natural wood from African countries.
- Recognizing the vast potential of the African timber market, Mr. Hung decided to embark on a challenging journey in 1996, choosing Angola as his first destination. Angola possesses abundant and high-quality wood resources but primarily serves the domestic market.
- Witnessing this, Mr. Hung wondered, “Why not bring Angola’s high-quality wood to the international market?” He was determined to bring this precious resource to the world stage.
- In 1997, with limited capital and little experience, Mr. Hung courageously started his own small business named HATC. The beginning was full of difficulties as he faced cultural and language barriers, as well as complex legal regulations in Angola. It took HATC longer than expected to understand the market, establish relationships with local suppliers, and begin logging operations in February 1998.
- Logging in Africa was fraught with challenges such as corruption, underdeveloped infrastructure, and a shortage of skilled labor.
- Undeterred, Mr. Hung persevered with his motto, “No pressure, no diamonds.” He worked tirelessly to build good relationships with the local community, invest in infrastructure, and train his employees.
- In 2000, Mr. Hung completed the logging operation in Angola and was recognized as a pioneer in sustainable logging. HATC also received a business license from the Angolan Ministry of Industry and Trade.
- Continuing its growth momentum, HATC expanded rapidly in the following years. In 2003, Mr. Hung established two more sawmills and warehouses in Angola, hiring an additional 100 workers. In 2016, HATC officially exported its first 50,000m3 of wood to the United States and the Middle East.
- Recognizing the enormous potential of the African timber market, Mr. Hung partnered with Mr. Do Trong Quy, CEO of K-Global, to establish the K-TIMBER brand. Headquartered in Vietnam, K-TIMBER aims to bring African timber to the world stage.
Since then, HATC in collaboration with K-TIMBER has achieved many outstanding achievements in its international trade journey, such as:
- K-TIMBER officially becomes the Top 5 wood supplier in Africa
- Top 100 wood experts in the world
- TOP 10 Most Trusted Brands in ASEAN.
- Built 5 sawmills located throughout Angola and over 100 employees
- Successfully exported to over 30 countries around the world including Greece, the Middle East, Vietnam, the USA and European countries.
