    Description

Padauk heartwood displays a wide spectrum of colors, ranging from light orange to dark reddish-brown. Freshly cut pieces often start with a reddish-orange hue and gradually deepen in color over time (some lighter pieces may age to a greyish brown). While the grain is typically straight, occasional interlaced patterns can be found. The wood possesses a natural shine and a rough, open texture. It is classified as highly robust and durable, with exceptional resistance to decay. Furthermore, termites and other pests pose no threat to padauk. It is relatively easy to work with, although planing quartersawn boards may result in tear-out due to the interlocked grain. Padauk is suitable for turning, gluing, and finishing, and is frequently imported as turning and craft blanks, available in various lengths and thicknesses.

    Uses of Padauk

    • High-end furniture: Padauk’s rich color, attractive grain, and exceptional durability make it a popular choice for crafting high-end furniture pieces like tables, cabinets, and chairs.
    • Musical instruments: Padauk’s tonal qualities make it a good choice for use in some musical instruments, particularly for the backs and sides of guitars.
    • Turned objects: The tight grain and rich color of Padauk make it ideal for creating turned objects such as bowls, handles, and decorative pieces.
