Kosipo wood is red brown with purplish glints. It darkens with light. Deposits of black resin in the pores. Ribbon like aspect on quartersawn. It has clearly demarcated sapwood. The grain is straight or interlocked and the texture is coarse.

Description

The blunting effect varies from quite high to very high (silica) and peeling and slicing is reported to be good. Requires power. Sometimes difficulties due to interlocked grain (tearing). Nailing is good and gluing is correct. It dries normal to slowly. The drying of backsawn is more difficult and slower with higher risks of distortion. Quartersawn well dry is recommended for end-uses in exterior.

Kosipo is moderately durable to durable to fungi and is durable to dry wood borers; sapwood demarcated (risk limited to sapwood).

Uses of Kosipo Wood

Kosipo can be used for several applications such as:

Interior: e.g. flooring, stairs, panelling, sliced veneer, joinery, high class furniture, veneer, light carpentry
Exterior: e.g. exterior joinery, panelling

The adherence of finishing product may be difficult due to the presence of resin. Sanding must be done with care. Filling is necessary to obtain a good finish.
